Are you Planning building or Extending your Home?

What is building regulation Part L?

It is quite simply “The conservation of Fuel and Power“. Part L1a covers new buildings, and Part L1b covers existing buildings.

Why use Anderson Goddard?

Because we have been providing sap calculations for building regulation compliance for several years and understand what’s needed for building regulation compliance, and what works.

We read and understand the building regulations, so you don’t have to.

Our intension is to save you money

For your project to meet building regulation compliance

For you to get what you want from your particular design or development.

For you to be as green as practically possible, but we wont pressure, or force you, but give you honest practical advice and leave the decision to you.

Self build? Part L1a

The new regulations give a lot more scope for artistic design and flexibility for new developments.

We will provide you with enough information for your development to meet current regulations, we look at the overall construction in its entirety and make the necessary recommendations for you to gain building regulation compliance.

We will give you the facts and any options, you decide how you want to spend your money, its that simple.

Air pressure testing

If your going to live in the property we can give you the advice necessary to eliminate the need for an air pressure test, you would get more value spending the cost of the test on improving the overall performance of the property and seeing the benefit in reduced fuel consumption, than just paying for a test.

A new conservatory? Part L1b

Under the new regulations if you want a lot of glazing in your new extension you need a SAP calculation.

We can provide building regulation compliance if you want more than 25% glazing in your new extension.

Now comes the boring bit.

What building control want is a SAP calculation for the existing building with a notional extension that meets the requirements for the regulations, and then they want SAP calculations for the existing building with the proposed extension, and they want to see that its no worse than the notional extension.

We give you the required information for you to gain building regulation compliance and get your new extension or conservatory just the way you want it.

Cracking the code

We are working on various projects for compliance with the codes for sustainable development, and are looking for various ambitious opportunities to be able to deliver the equivalent of code 3 or 4 of the code for sustainable development on existing properties.

The following elements of the code are the % reduction in carbon dioxide emissions in comparison to the relevant Target Emission Rate (TER) set out in the building regulations Part L 2006.

There are other criteria required for a dwelling to comply with the codes for sustainable development which include water consumption and the impact on the environment from the construction, but as energy assessors we will for now concentrate on the required reduction in the dwellings carbon dioxide emissions.

Code 1 10%

Code 2 18%

Code 3 25%

Code 4 44%

Code 5 100%

Code 6 ZERO Carbon

The government has set an ambitious implementation of the codes for sustainable development, a new dwelling built after 2010 will have to meet Code 3, and in 2016 all new dwellings will have to be carbon neutral and achieve code 6.

At Anderson Goddard we are fully aware of the challenges that face us all on are road to meeting code 6 for sustainable development and are constantly looking for practical solutions for sustainability.
