SAP Assessing - the overview
What is SAP?
Sap is the governments Standard assessment procedure for calculating the energy performance of a dwelling, and is covered under Part L of the building regulations “Conservation of Fuel and Power”
All new build houses require SAP certification.
From 6th April 2006 changes where made to building regulation Part L which included taking account of solar gains, air pressure testing, and included renewable energy.
Although air pressure testing may not be necessary for a small developments of two dwellings, a default value of 15 square meters of air leakage would need to be used in the calculations which would need to offset somewhere else in the construction.
The new regulations work on the overall design meeting 5 criteria.
Target Emission Rate (TER) and Dwelling Emission Rate (DER), and the DER should be no grater than TER to demonstrate compliance.
Limiting U-Values
Appropriate passive control measures to limit solar gains.
Dwelling as built, it is constant with the DER, pressure tests, thermal bridging, and commissioning.
Providing information. Operating and maintenance instructions.
